Trail Rejuvenation Project 2012

Here are some photos pre-event of the project we tackled.

Everyone remember those stairs and the mess they were?
Well, now they look like this.

Thank you to all of those who were in attendance of this project.  We got a lot done and made a great change to the trail.  Next year we will be tackling the same area and making it even better!

Post Event 2012

The 2nd Annual Dierkes Clean & Crank Boulderfest was a great success!  This year we had about 70 participants involved in our trail rejuvenation project and bouldering competition.

On October 12th twenty climbers gathered in Elevation Sports to listen to local athlete Beau Stuart present on his life adventure of climbing.  The following morning 38 people showed up bright and early to clean up our local crag and rebuild the access trail that was washed out around a set of stairs.  That afternoon 42 people of all ages and experience wrestled the wind and boulders.

All of the participants of the competition and volunteers of the Adopt-a-Crag get entered in for the prize raffle at the end of the day.  This year we had enough donations that everyone was able to walk away with something.

During the event this year we started a tradition that will hopefully continue as long as the event will run; we had a member drive for the Access Fund bringing in eight new members.

This event has been a great influence to the community of Twin Falls and an even better asset to the climbers of the Magic Valley.  The City of Twin Falls has received us with open arms and will continue to support us in years to come.  This is becoming an event that the whole community wants to get behind.  This year we were also featured, yet again, in the local newspaper with an article leading up to the event.  Next year the event will be covered by one of the local television stations.

This year we had a lot of hiccups along the way and appreciate your patience as we are growing this event into what I hope will become a much-anticipated annual shindig.  A local photographer, Chris Zigich, has posted his photos of the event for our enjoyment here

Thank you everyone for everything you have contributed and attending the event.

Post Event 2011

The 1st Ever Dierkes Clean & Crank on May 14th, 2011 was a success!  We had 38 volunteers show up for the clean-up which started at 9:30am.  People were surprised at the amount of trash that was found amongst our crag areas.  By noon all of the trash had been gathered and people began registering for the bouldering competition.  We had 37 competitors pull down on boulder problems ranging from v0-  to undone projects suspected to push the double-digit range.  26 of the competitors volunteered in the clean-up earlier that morning.  There were no casualties during the event beside a few sprained ankles and some pulled tendons.
Weather was on our side for most of the day, temperatures soared up to 80 degrees by mid-afternoon and by 2pm a thunderstorm rolled in forcing competitors to take refuge under whatever they could find.  The competition format was more endurance-based; boulder problems were divided into five categories of difficulty with point values of 10-50, respectively.  Climbers were encouraged to climb as many problems as possible, and in the end we tallied all problems completed with their top three counting double.
River and Adventure Toys, our local climbing shop, came through and shuttled all of our staging equipment across the lake, which allowed us to set up right in the bouldering area.  The City of Twin Falls was excited about the event and supported us fully.  We had a total of 35 companies donate to the pile of swag allowing everyone present to walk away with at least one item if not a couple.   Examples of what was donated were 2 pairs of Mad Rock shoes, 1 pair of La Sportiva, 2- $100 to Rock On, ENO Double Nest hammock, 5 pack of draws, GSI cook sets, Sender films, box full of wool Sherpa beanies, t-shirts out the ears, Asana bags, 4 Petzl headlamps, 2 pair Mountain Khakis, Smith glasses, and 4 Kershaw knifes.
With the great success of this 1st ever event we have decided to make this an annual happening.  In 2012 we are looking to move the event to October in hopes of better weather and temps.   Everyone watch for this event next fall!  It will be even bigger and better than this year’s!
